Water Reclamation Plant in Windhoek takes one step forward
Water Reclamation Plant for Windhoek’s largest Industrial Zone
The City of Windhoek (CoW) operates the UJAMS industrial wastewater treatment plant since more than 30 years. Currently the plant comprises a set of anaerobic, facultative and aerobic ponds. Due to heavy overloading, new, more stringent effluent standards and the anticipated water re-use the CoW decided to replace the old plant with a high technology Membrane Bioreactor Plant.
In 2008 the Consulting Contract was awarded to the Consortium consisting of Hydro-Ingenieure GmbH (Lead Partner) together with Prof. Dr. Dr. K.-U. Rudolph GmbH by the City of Windhoek (CoW). The services comprise the design of the WWTP, tariff study, tendering of BOO Contract, Pilot Tests for MBR Plant and works supervision. For the CoW the project represents a major step towards the improvement of the environmental situation of the largest industrial zone located north of Windhoek as well as the protection of scarce water resources in an arid country.
